Sapno ka Mahal, an Immersion Space
2016, KHOJ, Khirki Village, With Sumedha Garg.
Otherworlds-Sapno ka Mahal is a immersion space that maps the web of dreams that the inhabitants of Khirki Village, Delhi build and espouse in their daily sleep cylces. It is a space that emerged from an ethnographic study of the residents of Khirki Village, where we interviewed them about their wildest dreams. Not so much their desires but the otherworlds which they imagine every night.
The space itself is assembled from cheap scaffolding materials and is composed of a series of interlinked spaces which correspond to the various cycles of dreaming that one encounters everyday. The almost surreal experiences in these spaces are derived from the elements that emerged in the dreams of the inhabitants of this villages.
